Job Summary:

The Maintenance Custodian performs cleaning and maintenance tasks to ensure a safe, orderly, and pleasant appearance of all facilities and grounds. This position is responsible for assisting with all aspects of cleaning and maintenance duties as well as offering support for faculty and staff as facility needs arise.

Required Availability: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, either 5:00am-1:30pm or 10:00am-6:30pm. Some weekends may be requested.

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

• Personally respond quickly to immediate needs in all areas of the facility, assess situation and take appropriate action

• Knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety hazards, and proper use of various cleaning and sanitizing solutions

• Ability to perform basic repairs and operate tools or equipment used in routine maintenance and cleaning. Such as, floor machine, buffing machine, snow blower, lawn mower etc.

• Ability to keep the church and school clean, and orderly

• Welcoming, polite, professional, and courteous attitude toward all staff, students, parents, and visitors

• Detail-oriented, organized, and thorough; able to maintain accurate and organized records of safety checks and maintenance repairs

• Computer skills in operating of computer software, HVAC systems and applications used in performance of the job

• Preferred work experience in facilities management, custodial, and maintenance

• Must pass pre-employment a background check

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods standing

• Ability to repeatedly push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, and climb ladders

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time

Essential Duties:

• Performs general cleaning and janitorial duties in the all areas of the facility.

• Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of all restrooms.

• Sweeps, mops, scrubs, or vacuums floors.

• Gathers and empties trash receptacles.

• Maintains stock of hand towels, toilet paper, soap, and other supplies.

• Keeps windows clean; free of streaks, hand prints, and dirt.

• Troubleshoots facilities equipment and systems within the building.

• Performs minor repairs and maintenance such as replacing light bulbs, furnace filters, or unclogging pipes.

• Performs grounds maintenance such as mowing and trimming grass, raking, pruning shrubs and trees, weeding garden beds. During winter months, clearing snow from sidewalks, entryways, and salting icy areas.

• Ensures heating and cooling systems are operational; monitoring schedules and alarms.

• Monitors irrigation system, scheduling watering times, as well as contractor maintenance, shut-offs and blow outs as needed

• Performs facility scheduled preventive maintenance and general repairs.

• Runs safety checks on all emergency lights, fire extinguishers, and safety equipment.

• Assists in examining church and school for safety hazards; reports deficiencies to Operations Manager.

• Coordinates outside contractor work for regular maintenance and inspections.

• Orders and oversees custodial and maintenance supply inventory and equipment, operating within budgeted means.

• Prepares a monthly report of facilities maintenance needs and completed tasks at the Board of Trustees monthly meetings

• Event set-up and clean-up as requested.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.
