Sharing God's Word

SINCE 1888

St Paul's Lutheran Church exists to Support each other with God's Word and Sacraments;

Share Christ with our community and the world; and Serve others in Christian love.

History

St Paul's Lutheran Church was first started in Onalaska, Wisconsin on May 6, 1888. After almost 70 years at it's original location, the congregation decided to relocate to the corner of Sand Lake and Main Streets in Onalaska and a new church was built in 1957. In 1973, a small school was added and the doors opened to our first students in 1974. God has greatly blessed our church family over the years with several more building additions and renovations. Our church family currently has over 1500 members and our school has over 200 students. We pray the Lord continues to bless the efforts of St Paul's Church and School in the Coulee Region and beyond.

What We Believe

•In an age of anxiety, we believe that real peace comes from Jesus Christ.

•In an age of confusion, we believe that the Bible is the word of God; without error, and it will endure forever.

•In an age of doubt, we believe that Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.

•In an age of guilt, we believe that Jesus died on the cross to remove the power of sin from our lives.

•In an age of hopelessness, we believe that Jesus rose physically from death; and so will we rise.

•In an age of skepticism, we believe that God is at work in the sacraments of Holy Baptism and Holy Communion.

•In an age of despair, we believe God’s promises to heal and transform us.

•In an age of violence, we believe that God calls us to embody his love in the world.

•In an age of constant change, we believe in the unchanging Holy Trinity; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

What can I expect in a worship service?

Our worship services typically last one hour and the focus will always be Jesus and the Bible. Every Sunday expect to hear God's Word show you your sin and then proclaim your forgiveness. You will hear this message in the Bible readings, the songs we sing, and in the sermon. We are a church that follows an order of service, or a liturgy.

What should I wear?

Some people wear shirts, ties, or dresses. Other people wear jeans. Don't worry about your clothing. Come as you are. We are just happy to share Jesus with you.

Are children welcome?

Kids of all ages are welcome at St Paul's. We encourage children and their parents to grow in faith together as they hear God's Word and sing His praises. The pastor gives a short children's message most Sundays. We have a nursery with large windows and speakers that allows you to follow along with the service even if you need to step out with your child.

Will I be asked for money?

During our services we gather an offering. It is a way that we continue to carry out our work in the Onalaska area. When you visit, you are our guest. We do not require anyone to contribute. We are simply happy to have you with us.
